Internet and Social Media's Change In Human Psychology.

*Titles with arrows to the left are expandable poems related to the topic with more personal perspectives.

The effort to put pressure upon a key is less than thinking and fixing your mouth to say something significant. Collecting data on a device feels more gratifying than being consistent and trusting in someone else’s mind and heart… When you’re fed up, you can turn it off, flip it over, put it away. You cannot do that to a person. I’m sorry if I made mistakes. Technology and people cannot be treated the same. That’s on you not me. Are you gonna be someone known only to do the effortless? The growth of social media: In 2005, 5 percent of American adults used at least one social media platform.

In 2020, 72 percent of the American public used some type of social media.

"Our world is changing drastically."

Technology, especially social media, will continue to play a tremendous role in that change.

With social interaction being positively correlated with happiness, you’d think human beings would be the happiest we’ve ever been. Yet, we’re lonelier than ever. Those under 25 years old reported being the loneliest generation — those who grew up with social media as an integral part of life.

She knew what it was. Ma told me she knew sumn or somebody was holding me back from my mission. I was first confused by the comment but it steered me right. Naturally, she always had the upper hand on the ideas of who I am. I will try to continue to live even when I’m stagnant. Everyday is a new day. With new problems. New things will make you stagnant. But accepting these things are what makes shit come full circle. I didn’t know it before but Ma told me she knew sumn was going on. I am disconnected.

Like one cord that must detach itself to atone to another device. A tether of disassociation. I was disconnected. I had learned to sit with feelings and be okay when others are not okay. “The thing abt you is you detach like a snap of a finger when it’s something that disrupts you. It’s like a switch.” - Ma I didn’t really know Ma thought of me in that way. To keep it real witchu? Stuff happened and there were things that were said in my life. A feeling grew into a barrier— concealed acceptance. Acceptance. I was in Badu’s window seat. I was ready and waiting to finally “remove” myself and take a ride. Just to feel something like the sun on my face was like I stepped away from everything. We all want a window seat sometimes just to get away. I just wanna get away, please.

"Social apps provide a sense of belonging, a means to show the world who we are. On the surface, social media makes us feel connected, even if we haven’t left our cave in days.

Humans have evolved to live, work, and play amongst one another. We need social interaction to survive."

"We’re now shopping through apps, using them to propagate activism, and building our personal platforms. Moreover, we’re getting more and more of our news from social media, as 48 percent of American adults under thirty say that social media is their go to news source."

- A report from June 30 2020 @ Pew Research Center

"To further explore the influence of this relatively new entry into the news ecosystem, this report studies the characteristics of U.S. adults who rely on social media as their main pathway to political and election news, in comparison with the six other groups. Demographically, U.S. adults who rely most on social media for news tend to be younger, are less likely to be white, and have lower levels of education than those who mainly use several other platforms."

The same rule applies to information vs "news."

As the world becomes increasingly dependent on technology, the potential for cybercrime grows, and individuals and organizations are susceptible.

-The rise of social media has led to a new form of self-presentation, where individuals can craft and maintain a carefully curated online persona that may differ significantly from their offline self. This can result in feelings of pressure to conform to social norms and expectations, leading to anxiety, low self-esteem, and other mental health issues.

-Moreover, the digital world has also led to changes in how people think, process information, and make decisions.

Linked to decreased ability to focus, retain information, make decisions, and increased stress.

Decency and Copyright Acts with the context of social media content provide more protection for platforms than their users.

Note that this creation has exposed humans and made them unstable, allowing the point of curated protection from it.

"Cybersecurity has been and will continue to be a critical aspect of our ever-evolving digital landscape. However, while technology and infrastructure play a crucial role in safeguarding against cybercrime, the human psyche can be a formidable adversary. As research has shown, human error remains a leading cause of data breaches and cyberattacks, thus highlighting the significance of cyber-psychology in the context of cybersecurity.”

Although tech seems to have our best interest at heart, it doesn’t negate the fact that tech is fighting against itself and aids even further in human’s dependency on it. Does natural survival instinct live here?

Not when humanity itself leads to a system's instability. The worst part is that there are physical, emotional, and mental consequences to suffer from.

There is no sustainability where there is no room for “error.” Human error.

With a relationship similar to oil and water, the lack of clear, unbiased, foundational information can give policy and other government practices too much power over individuality. There is critical power in being an individual!

So there's a power struggle, right?

Our job needs to be "each one, teach one." to be stronger together. Retrieve our information and find the value in our differences. We all experience the same things but in different ways. The ability to accept and understand brings clarity to all things. The first step is to educate yourself. There is never one right answer or one right opinion. There is only yours, which is important to each personal experience when living amongst each other.

61/295. United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples

"Affirming further that all doctrines, policies, and practices based on or advocating superiority of peoples or individuals on the basis of national origin or racial, religious, ethnic or cultural differences are racist, scientifically false, legally invalid, morally condemnable and socially unjust."

"Affirming that indigenous peoples are equal to all other peoples, while recognizing the right of all peoples to be different, to consider themselves different, and to be respected as such,

Affirming also that all peoples contribute to the diversity and richness of civilizations and cultures, which constitute the common heritage of humankind."

The "one size fits all" wave of America is a problem.
